Co-Lin clips Hinds 3-2 in 12-inning marathon

WESSON – Co-Lin won the hard way and the long way Wednesdaynight. The Wolves battled the Hinds Eagles for 12 innings beforeposting a 3-2 win on Sullivan Field.

Co-Lin lost the South Division opener, falling 11-1 as theWolves committed 8 errors.

Co-Lin, coached by Keith Case, climbed to 26-20 overall and13-11 in the South Division. The Wolves are 7-3 in regionalgames.

Co-Lin 3, Hinds 2

In the bottom of the 12th, Hinds relief pitcher Chris Huffwalked 3 straight batters. Arlandus Brown scored on a wild pitch inthe nearly 4-hour marathon.

Jacob Blakeney got the win in relief. He took over in theseventh, striking out 5 batters, walking 3, hitting 2 batters andgiving up 2 hits.

Catcher David Gray had 2 hits for Co-Lin. Britt Hederman’ssacrifice fly drove in Brown with the first run for the game. Inthe third, Brandon Atkins doubled home Brown.

Hinds 11, Co-Lin 1

Chris Reed and Matt Lantrip combined for a 3-hitter inWednesday’s opener. Reed (2-1) struck out 8 batters, walked 2 andhit 1 batter. Lantrip gave up 2 hits, striking out 1 batter andwalked 1.

The Eagles got a solo home run from third baseman Josh McCann inthe third inning. Reed, Nathan Purvis and Logan Owens doubled andsingled for Hinds.

Josh Garrett absorbed the loss. Garrett (6-4) walked one batterand didn’t record a strikeout, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits. He wasreplaced by Jacob Hartwig.

Brett Duncan led Co-Lin with 2 singles. Hederman singled.
