The hard work and dedication of a Lincoln County student couldpay off with big results next month during a nationalcompetition.

Caitie May, 17, a junior at Enterprise Attendance Center, hopesto win a college scholarship when she participates in a FutureBusiness Leaders of America (FBLA) competition in Orlando, Fla.

She has already made great achievements by winning fourth placein the district and second place on the state level. Only the toptwo high school students from each state are allowed to participatein nationals.

“I’m excited about it, and I’m honored to be representing myschool,” said May, whose parents are Lora Hedgepeth and TommyMay.

Enterprise business teacher Diane Crotwell is especially proudof May for her accomplishments. She pointed out that it is May’snature to strive for success.

“She’s a good student. She’s got a bright future ahead of her,”said Crotwell, noting that May has received several other academicawards and is an honor roll student.

Her area of competition will involve successfully using avariety of computer programs in a timed event.

Since winning on the state level, May has been spending as muchtime as possible preparing for her upcoming competition. She hasput in a number of extra hours at the school’s computer lab and hasbeen studying computer terminology that will be on a written examduring the competition.

“It will help me to know my terms and be able to type fast andread the instructions quickly,” she said.

Since the school’s FBLA chapter is fairly new, there is notenough money saved up in their funds for the trip to nationals. Maymust also spend some of her time on fund-raisers.

“We’re having bake sales every Friday, and the PTA has helped bypaying for half of it,” said Crotwell.

Enterprise Principal Bruce Falvey was so pleased with May’ssuccess that he made a personal donation to the trip.

FBLA members have also planned a co-ed softball tournament onMay 19 at the school to help raise money.

“Everybody wants to see her go and do well. It means a lot forsomeone from a small school to be able to compete against studentsfrom bigger schools,” said Crotwell.

She hopes to get the local community involved in the endeavor,too. Some area residents have already contributed, and Crotwellhopes more will assist.
