Services for Oscar William “Peter” Smith of Brookhaven are 2p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Center Street Church of Christ with burialin Hillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday, May 28, from noon to 7 p.m. with a familyhour from 6-7 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Mr. Smith, 56, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at MississippiBaptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born in Brookhaven onAug. 5, 1944, to the late James and Severa Smith.

He was employed in the maintenance department of Columbus LumberCompany for 20 years. He was a member of Center Street Church ofChrist.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, GarrickSmith.

Survivors are his wife, Alberta Merchant Smith of Brookhaven;son, Derrick Dewayne Smith of Milwaukee, Wis.; daughter, BarbaraAnn Herring of Brookhaven; brothers, James Smith of Vallejo,Calif., and Wesley Smith of Brookhaven; sisters, Lina Blackwell ofBogue Chitto, Kathy Sutton and Mary Freeman, both of Brookhaven,Severa Ella Tucker of Bogue Chitto and Betsy Johnson of Brookhaven;and seven grandchildren.
