Dixie Boys tourney starts Monday night

The Exchange Club Dixie Boys Baseball League City ChampionshipTournament kicks off Monday at Exchange Club Field. Thedouble-elimination tournament will run through Friday night, June22.

Three games will be played Monday, starting at 5 p.m., withUnion Planters Bank versus Lincoln Ready-Mix. Randy’s Sports playsB&B Insulation at 7, followed by Trustmark Bank vs. New YorkLife at 9.

On Tuesday night, winners of the Monday’s first two games playat 8, preceded by the losers at 6. The winner of Monday’sTrustmark-New York Life game advances to Wednesday night’s 8o’clock game while the loser plays Wednesday at 6 in an eliminationgame.

New York Life won the regular season title with a 12-2 record.Randy’s Sports was runner-up with a 10-4 mark. B&B Insulationwas third with an 8-6 mark. Trustmark Bank was fourth at 6-8. UnionPlanters Bank and Lincoln Ready-Mix both finished 3-11.

League president Scott Warren said the all-star teams would beannounced at the conclusion of the tournament Friday night.District tournament play begins July 7, the 13-year-olds at Natchezat the 14s at Summit.

The league concluded regular season play with a doubleheader.Randy’s Sports beat Union Planters 8-2 and B&B Insulationburied Lincoln Ready-Mix 13-2.

Winning pitcher Chris Falvey struck out 7 batters andwalked 2. At the plate, doubles by Mason Warren and Chance Peetspowered the victory. Dustin Brewer and Brandt Hinton providedsingles as the winners took a 4-0 lead in the firstinning.

Micah Navarro fanned 2 and walked 1 in a losing cause.The bankers got a double from Blake Brown. Brad Buckles and Navarrosingled.

B&B 12, Lincoln 3

B&B Insulation exploded for 7 first-inning runs andled 10-0 after 2. Cody Jones was the winning pitcher with 2strikeouts to his credit.

Two doubles and a single by Jones led B&B inbatting. Jasper O’Quinn doubled and singled. Matthew Hester andChase Coon singled.

A triple by Vance Case was the only hit for LincolnReady-Mix. Chris Hester fanned 4 and walked 5 in a losingcause.
