Racers get past rain for lots of competition

MAGNOLIA – Right at race time, down came the rain Saturday nightat Pike County Speedway. Just a steady rain but cars and fans piledin anyway from other tracks that were rained out. Several SUPR carsshowed up after they rained out. The pit and the woods were filledwit over 136 racing cars. In spite of bad weather, the fans keptcoming too. When the rain finally stopped, it took trucks, 4wheelers and race cars to get the track groomed and ready forracing.
SPRINTERS:
Lane Whittington, Kelly Angelette, Harold Henderson and MichaelHerrington all shared heat wins. Butch David sat on the pole forthe start of the feature. By turn one, David was in the leadfollowed by Whittington, Herrington and Henderson. Yellow flew onthe first lap when Cary Farmer went in to the guard rail in turntwo. David leader spun in two brining out the yellow. On therestart, it was Herrington and Whittington. Yellow flew becauseMichael Herrington’s front win was flopping so they removed it.Herrington and Whittington swapped the lead twice. Yellow flew whenHerman Carrier spun in four. While under yellow, Herrington wentin. On the restart, it was Whittington the rest of the way forfirst place. Finishing second was Henderson and third wasAngelette.
NOVICE B MAIN:
Jamie McCaffery led from green to checkered and scored the win.Henry Carroll ran second till Austin Butler took it over andfinished second. Claude Thigpen moved to third and Carroll finishedfourth.
NOVICE A MAIN:
No. 10 was the early leader until Tudy Jackson took over thelead. Heath Chambliss swiftly moved up through the field and thentook the lead and went on to score the win followed by Jackson insecond. Fred Hastings finished in third, No. 10 was fourth andRustin Cain took fifth. Novice head winners were No. 10, StephenPolk and Jackson.
STREET STOCK:
Randy Jamison and Kevin Vicknair took the wins. Vicknair tookthe lead but went up in blue smoke on the front straightaway.Jamison took over as the lead from that point. Matthew Simeon ransecond until mechanical problems sent him to the pits. Yellow flewwhen Jamie McClendon went in four two hard making contact withMcKey but spinning himself out. On the restart, it was Jamison allthe way to make it a two-win weekend after winning in Baton RougeFriday night. Second place went to Gary Talbert, third was McKey,fourth McClendon and fifth No. 19.
LATE MODEL:
Sam Patrick and David Ashley shared the heat wins. Patrick, onthe pole for the start of the feature, found himself in athree-wide battle for the lead with Ashley and Marlon Wild. Patrickgot the lead but not for long. A spin by Seavy Clemons in thefourth brought out the first yellow. Wild took over the lead thenran off and hid. Watson moved to second, Patrick took third, CurtLipsey moved up to finish fourth and Rob Litton took fifth.
UMP:
Jarrett Durrett, Wayne Morrison and Dow Hillhouse shared theheat wins. Hillhouse, from outside the front row, took the lead onthe start. Jason Taylor ran second and took the lead from Hillhousebut a caution sent Taylor back to second. On the restart, Taylorworked at Hillhouse till he took the lead again. Hillhouse spun onthe front straightaway and Glendale Shoemake nailed him in thedrivers door. Both drivers were okay, cars, well that was adifferent story! Taylor, in his FORD powerhouse, took his first winof the season. Durrett finished second, Ron Grandel was third.Wayne Morris followed in fourth and Patrick Barrett in fifth.
PURE STOCK:
Capturing head wins were David Brown and Justin Bowman. Browntook the lead on the start, but soon Billy McDaniels. and workedhis way to second and then blew past Brown on the backstraightaway. Bowman, on the last lap, went up in blue smoke.McDaniels won followed by Ryan Whitehead, Randy Brownell, Brown andLeonard Barrilleaux.
SUPER STOCK:
Joey Humphreys and Donald Collins won the head wins. Humphreysjumped into the lead on the start. Robert Moral ran second andDavid Knight third. Collins put the petal down on his Ford and tookthird from Knight, second from Moral, then went after Humphreys forthe lead. Collins made the pass for the lead, but Tim Thornton spunand brought out the yellow and sent Collins back to second on therestart. Again, Collins passed Humphreys for the lead. This time itcounted. Collins went on to rack up another win followed by Morel,Billy Gordon worked his way up to finish third. Knight was fourthand Humphreys finished fifth.
