Services for Larkin Powers Honea of Magee are 3 p.m. Sunday,Aug. 5, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee with burial inMagee City Cemetery.
Mr. Honea, 22, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at the University ofMississippi.
He was a Chancellor’s Scholar senior at the University ofMississippi and a former member of the Ole Miss Rebel Baseballteam. He was a member of the NJCAA Copiah-Lincoln Community CollegeWorld Series baseball team. He was also a member of the Phi ThetaKappa Honorary Society and a former pledge of the Sigma Chifraternity.
Honea was a 1997 honor graduate of Simpson Academy, where he wasa three year letterman in football and baseball. He was chosenfirst team All-State in football and baseball. He was named allconference quarterback for two years. As a senior, he was MVP ofthe conference in baseball. He completed his senior season pitchingcareer with a 14-0 record and a 0.68 earned run average. He was therecipient of the National Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarship.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, F.J.Dickey, and paternal grandfather, E. Morris Honea.
Survivors are his father, George Honea of Jackson; mother, SueHonea of Magee; brothers, Dickey Honea and wife, Georgiana, ofMadison and Breck Honea of Magee; maternal grandmother, Mary RuthDickey of Magee; paternal grandmother, Mary Honea of Magnolia; andseveral other relatives and friends.
