West Lincoln tops Wesson

WESSON – West Lincoln’s Lady Bears defeated Wesson’s Lady Cobras12-6 Tuesday in a varsity slowpitch softball game.

West Lincoln (1-1) resumes play Thursday at Brookhaven. Juniorvarsity action starts at 6, followed by the varsity at 7.

On Friday, West Lincoln hosts Franklin County, starting at 5 and7 p.m.

“We hit the ball well,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Weonly had six hits Saturday against Lawrence County.”

Hanna Roberts was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts andone walk. Brittany King was the loser with three walks.

Lauren Smith and Dana King powered West Lincoln with a tripleand a pair of singles apiece. Hitting a double and two singles wasRoberts. Jennifer Richardson, Britnee Smith and Chastity Avantsdoubled and singled each.

Adding support to the Lady Bears’ win was Holli Bass with adouble. Two singles were ripped by Emily Richardson. Amber Delaunehit safely.

King sparked Wesson at the plate with a double and a single.Haley Carr and Kate Scoggin collected a double and a single apiece.Doubling was Caron Brister. Hitting safely were Milli Smith,Brittany Smith, Maggie Morgan and Anna Johnson.

In the junior varsity game, Wesson and West Lincolnfinished tied 7-all at the end of regulation.

Nicole Laird belted three singles for West Lincoln. HopeLofton doubled and singled. Britnee Smith collected two singles.Doubling was Alicia Kennedy. April Kennedy, Jessie Jergins, KelseyBass, Ana Stewart and Libby Pickering singled.

Amanda Jackson, Amber Dyess and Megan Hudson singled tolead Wesson.

April Kennedy and Britnee Smith combined for twostrikeouts and 11 walks for West Lincoln. Wesson’s Bethany Dykesfinished with five strikeouts and one walk.
