BHS girls whip McComb

Ginny Dunaway belted three singles and a double to direct theBrookhaven Lady Panthers in a 16-4 win over the McComb Lady TigersTuesday night.

“Wesson was hitting the ball real well,” said West Lincoln coachAndrew Redd. “We made a few errors which kept Wesson in the gameThose errors are going to bite us.

“Our girls stuck together and played well at the end of thegame.”

West Lincoln (4-1) plays its first division game Friday, hostingSalem. The JV game starts at 5, followed by the varsity at 6. OnThursday, West Lincoln hosts Brookhaven, starting at 5 p.m., with aJV game.

Hanna Roberts was the winning pitcher. She did not issue a baseon balls in the 7-inning game.

The Lady Bears finished with 18 hits, led by first baseman HolliBass who had 3 singles and a triple, going 4-for-4. Third basemanJennifer Richardson singled and doubled. Second baseman LaurenSmith collected 3 singles. Leftfielder Lyndsay Franklin,rightfielder Amber Delaune and catcher Emily Richardson singledtwice.

Contributing singles to the victory were Chastity Avants,Brittnee Smith and Christy Lindigrin as West Lincoln scored twicein the top of the first.

Wesson got a homer from Brittany Smith to push the Lad y Cobrasahead 4-3 in the third inning.

The Lady Cobras finished with 12 hits. Pitcher Brittany King,Haley Carr, Caron Brister, Kate Scoggin and Anna Johnson singledtwice. Maggie Johnson also hit safely.

In the junior varsity game, West Lincoln prevailed 10-5.Alicia Kennedy was the winning pitcher. Bethany Dykes was chargedwith the loss.

The Lady Bears (2-1-1) got a double and a homer fromBrittnee Smith. Kennedy and Libby Pickering singled twice. HopeLofton doubled. Nicole Laird singled.
