Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce officials sayinterest is high in training classes that begin next week at theMobile Learning Lab.

Chandler Russ, executive vice-president, said some classes hadreached their 10-student capacity while others still have someopenings.

“The classes are filling up, but we’re going to maintain waitinglists so people need to go ahead and sign up,” Russ said.

Some classes begin Tuesday at the lab, located in the parkinglot across from the government complex. In all, seven differentclasses are being offered in September while 10 are scheduled forOctober.

“Those will be followed by another 10 in November and December,”Russ said.

Various computer classes have attracted the most interest.

Rosa Banks, an employee of the Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility,was signing up Wednesday for a computer course. She said she hopedto gain a better understanding of computers.

“I’ve got one, but my kids know what I don’t know,” Bankssaid.

Russ, though, said “soft skill” classes dealing with timemanagement, safe food handling for the food service industry, howto conduct an effective meeting and other areas are good programsand have openings.

“These other classes are great classes that can help them inbusiness,” Russ said.

The classes are being offered through a partnership between thechamber, Industrial Development Foundation, Vision Partnership andCopiah-Lincoln Community College.

Classes are free of charge, but students must be either chambermembers or employees of chamber members, Russ said. Class lengthsrange from 2.5 to three hours, with some classes consisting of onlyone meeting while others will meet several times during themonth.

“There are some good opportunities and we want to get the wordout to people so they’ll know they’re there,” Russ said.
