Lady ‘Cats rally past West Lincoln

Bogue Chitto edged West Lincoln 5-4 Tuesday in nine innings atWest Lincoln in a Division 7-1A slowpitch softball showdown. AmberMaldonado drove in the winning run with a sharp single down theright field line, scoring Meleah Brown in the second extrainning.

“It was a tough game and we made some mental mistakes,” saidBogue Chitto coach Adriane Albritton. “Our girls played hard andfound a way to win.”

Kia Porter (7-0) was the winning pitcher. She struck out 2batters.

Hanna Roberts was charged with the loss. She fanned 2 and walked1.

At the plate, Bogue Chitto finished with 9 hits.Left-centerfielder Randi Moak led the Lady ‘Cats with 2 singles.Third baseman Marquita Ratcliff slugged a solo homer in the fourthinning for BC’s first run. Jessica Melton, Tracy Wallace. CandaceBraxton, Porter and Brown singled.

West Lincoln had 8 hits. Holli Bass doubled and Emily Richardsontripled. Dana King, Jennifer Richardson, Chastity Avants, LindsayFranklin, Britnee Smith and Roberts singled.

Bogue Chitto (7-0, 4-0) remained undefeated. The Lady Bearsscored 3 runs in the second and led 4-1 in the fifth.

The Lady ‘Cats rallied for 3 runs in the sixth to tie the scoreat 4-4.

“We made some costly errors and Bogue Chitto scored on us,” saidWest Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Bogue Chitto did a good job ofplaying together as a team and hanging in there.”

In the JV game, West Lincoln won 4-2. Alicia Kennedy wasthe winning pitcher and Wendy Fairchild took the loss.

At the plate, West Lincoln got hits from BrittneyPhillips, Jessie Jergins, Hope Lofton, Haley Smith, Britnee Smith,Libby Pickering and Kennedy.

Bogue Chitto finished with 5 hits, led by Braxton whohomered. Haley Roberts, Chelsey Miller, Tasha Jordan and ShennaBurton.

Bogue Chitto resumes play Thursday, hosting Enterprisefor a Division 7-1A test. The JV game starts at 6, followed by thevarsity at 7.

West Lincoln (8-2, 3-1), coached by Andrew Redd, hostsNatchez Cathedral Thursday for a single game. Varsity action startsat 5.
