There was some great news from Lawrence County this week — anew industry is coming.

American Apparels, Inc. announced plans to move into thebuilding once occupied by Kellwood Manufacturing and hire 40-to-50workers initially. The company, which specializes in made-to-orderclothing and uniforms, will begin operations later this year.

Kellwood’s closing in November 2000 left more than 300 out ofwork. Since then, Lawrence County officials have been working hardto replace those lost payroll dollars. They should be commended andcongratulated for bringing these new jobs to SouthwestMississippi.
