Pirates defeat W. Lincoln

MT. OLIVE – The West Lincoln Bears were leading the Mt.OlivePirates 7-6 with a few minutes left in the the first half. Two longpasses by the Pirates and a blocked Bear punt allowed Mt. Olive toscore two quick touchdowns and take a 20-7 lead at the half.

West Lincoln suffered a 26-14 loss in Region 4-1A action Fridaynight as Mt. Olive ended a long losing streak. The Pirates were0-11 last year.

“Our kids played hard,” said West Lincoln head coach Roe Burns.”They gave a good effort in the second half.”

Scoring both touchdowns for the 0-5 Bears was Stacey Fells whoscored on runs of 55 and 8-yards. Jacob Martin kicked bothPATs.

Top rusher for the Bears was Fells with 21 carries for 214yards. Cody Mitchell finished with 15 carries for 73 yards. AlanSkates rushed for 15 yards on three carries.

The Bears had 13 first downs and 317 yards total offense.

On defense, Lee Clark led West Lincoln with seventackles. Richard Green made six stops. Collecting five tackles wasCody Mitchell. Clint Smith recovered a fumble.

West Lincoln hosts Region 4-1A rival Bogue ChittoFriday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
