Controlling the line of scrimmage with time-consuming drivesusually will win most ballgames. Bogue Chitto took advantage ofseveral stalled West Lincoln drives and turnovers. The Bobcats wereclicking on all cylinders to the tune of a 57-0 Region 4-1A winover the Bears Friday night, at Perry Miller Field.

West Lincoln travels to Salem Friday night while Bogue Chittohost Dexter in a key regional test for both schools. Kickoff is setfor 7:30 p.m.

West Lincoln (0-6, 0-4) dominated in time of possession, withseveral drives lasting 3 minutes or longer. The Bears turnovers andincomplete drives were the difference in the game. The Bears nearlyheld a 2-to-1 advantage in time of possession, 29:22 to 18:38, with6 of West Lincoln’s 11 drives lasting 3 minutes or longer.

Turnovers and the inability to pick up first downs were decisivein the game. The Bobcat defense held the Bears to only 8 firstdowns and 82 yards of total offense.

Bogue Chitto took charge during the time that they had thefootball. The Bobcats concluded the first 12 minutes with a 14-0lead. Quarterback Jacob Leggett scored from 14 yards out with 7:34left in the period. Senior runningback Dominique Addison hitpaydirt from 39 yards away. Leggett passed to Denard Ferguson forthe successful 2-point conversion try.

Despite the early deficit, West Lincoln veteran head coach RoeBurns was pleased with the first quarter effort.

“We played a pretty good first quarter,” said Burns.

The Bobcats continued their mastery of the Bears in the secondperiod. With 11:30 left in the period, Leggett found wideout CodyWallace in the back of the endzone with an 8-yard scoring strike.Addison’s conversion run was good.

After a blocked Bear punt, Ferguson capped off a 2-play, 11-yarddrive with an 8-yard touchdown run with 9:24 left in the half. Theconversion try failed.

Addison hit paydirt at the 3:01 mark of the period from 28 yardsout. Ferguson’s conversion run was good and the Bobcats entertaineda 36-0 lead at the intermission.

“We played very well,” said Bogue Chitto head coach Carl Colefollowing the game. “We were able to execute our plays.”

Addison batted a perfect 3-for-3 on the night. He carried theball 3 times and scored 3 touchdowns, with his third coming at the9:53 mark of the third quarter. His 17-yard scamper, along withErnie Johnston PAT kick, gave Cole’s squad a 43-0 lead. Addisonrushed for 84 yards, on runs of 39, 28 and 17.

Leggett tossed his second touchdown pass of the night with 1:59left in the quarter. Leggett found Chad Moak with a beautifullylobbed 30-yard strike. The PAT kick failed and Bogue Chitto carrieda 49-0 lead into the final stanza.

“Bogue Chitto has a good football team,” added Burns. “They’vegot good size, good speed and are well-coached.”

Bogue Chitto increased the lead to 51-0, when Bobcat defensivelinemen Anthony Stevenson sacked Bear runningback Dale Wheat in theendzone for a safety with 5:25 left in the game.

Bobcat freshman runningback Antonio Diggs capped off the night’sscoring with a 47-yard burst to the goal line with 4:13 left on theclock. Diggs led the Bogue Chitto ground game with 85 yards on 7rushes.

“Our young runningbacks did well,” added Cole. “There is a lotof talent here for the future.”

Defensively, Cody Mitchell led West Lincoln with 9tackles. Mitchell Green added tackles. Jerry Laird had 5 tackles.Clint Smith had a fumble recovery.

John Wallace paced Bogue Chitto with 8 tackles.Stevenson and Caleb McCaffrey had 6 apiece. McCaffrey had 2 fumblerecoveries. Stevenson and Paul Martin had individualsacks.
