Hornets rout Hinds AHS

UTICA – The Loyd Star Hornets handed the Hinds AHS Bulldogs a47-0 whipping Friday night in Region 6-2A action. Loyd Starimproved to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in district play. The Hornetsroared to a 40-0 halftime lead, allowing Loyd Star head coachAnthony Hart to make early substitutions.

“It was a division game and this was really the first time allyear that we have been in a comfortable position at halftime,” saidLoyd Star head coach Anthony Hart. “We have been five tight games.It was good to get everybody in the ballgame and come out with awin.”

Loyd Star jumped out to a 20-0 lead over Hinds AHS in the firstquarter. Derrick Johnson rushed for a 12-yard touchdown, Adam Speegcarried for a two-yard score and Demarcus Barnes ran for a 3-yardTD. Jody Britt kicked 5 of 7 PATs in the game.

In the second quarter, the Hornets tacked on two more unansweredTDs to take a 40-0 lead going in at halftime. Johnson ran for an18-yard touchdown, Barnes rushed for an eight-yard score andJohnson scored his third and last TD from 15-yards out.

Josh Townsend scored the final Loyd Star touchdown of the gamein the third quarter from nine yards out for the 47-0 lead over thewinless War Dawgs.

Johnson powered the Hornets with nine rushes for 112 yards.Barnes collected 28 yards on five carries.

Loyd Star quarterback Seth Britt completed 3 of 5 passes for 86yards. Cass Brister caught one pass for 34 yards. Making one catchfor 29 yards was Josh Reed. Blake Cain had one catch for 23yards.

On defense, Daniel Sisco and Beau Morrison ledthe Hornets with six tackles apiece. William Hill and CodyCovington intercepted a pass apiece. Jonathan Smith recovered afumble. Matthew Delaughter blocked one punt.

Loyd Star entertains Wesson (5-1, 1-0) Friday night for a hugedistrict game at William E. “Sambo” Smith Field. Game time is 7:30p.m.
