Lady Panthers third in BHS Tournament

Coach Lisa Covington’s Brookhaven Lady Panthers finished thirdin the BHS Slowpitch Softball Tournament at the Sports Complex,playing five games. The Lady Panthers beat Wesson 13-13, FranklinCounty 22-2, Natchez 7-4 but lost to Bogue Chitto 12-11 and WarrenCentral 10-0.
Brookhaven (14-11) concludes regular season play tonight,hosting North Pike. The junior varsity game starts at 6 followed bythe varsity at 7.
Brookhaven will host a first-round Class 4A state playoff seriesTuesday, Oct. 16. The Lady Panthers will play the Division 5-4Arunner-up in a best-of-three series.

A homer and 2 singles by JoRhonda Moore poweredBrookhaven’s win over Wesson. Ginny Dunaway and and Mandy Vinsoneach had 3 singles. Cortney Fielder and Devine Porter had 2 hits.Vinson was the pitcher of record in the tournament.
Brookhaven 22, Franklin Co. 6
Three singles apiece by Shamika Gilmore and SamanthaBoutwell directed Brookhaven’s win over Franklin County. Mooretripled and singled. Vinson, Porter and Chiquita Rancifer hadhits.
Brookhaven 7, Natchez 4
Two singles by Megan Bateman directed the Lady Pantherspast Natchez. Boutwell and Chuvaqua Smith doubled.
W. Central 10, Brookhaven 0
Singles by Vinson, Fielder, Porter, Dunaway and AshleySykes accounted for Brook’s 6 hits against WarrenCentral.
