West Lincoln girls advance in Class 1A

PUCKETT -The West Lincoln Lady Bears swept Puckett’s Lady Wolves13-8 and 9-7 Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 1A stateslowpitch softball playoffs. West Lincoln (22-8) advances to thesecond round of the state playoffs Saturday at Nanih Waiya nearLouisville.

“Our girls played very well and we hit the ball extremely well,”said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We played real good defense.Puckett hit the ball well.”

Hanna Roberts (22-8) was the winning pitcher in both games.

W. Lincoln 13, Puckett 8

Catcher Emily Richardson went 3-for-3 to power West Lincoln inthe opener. Leftfielder Lyndsay Franklin and third baseman JenniferRichardson singled twice. Shortstop Dana King and extra hitterChristy Lindigrin singled and doubled.

Lauren Smith, Britnee Smith, Hanna Roberts and Chastity Avantssingled. Amber Delaune and Holli Bass, doubled as West Lincolnplated 5 runs in the top of the first.

W. Lincoln 9, Puckett 7

Franklin singled twice and homered in the nightcap as WestLincoln overcame a slow start. Bass singled and doubled. LaurenSmith singled twice. Also hitting safely were Jennifer Richardson.Lindigrin, Roberts, Avants, Hope Lofton, Emily Richardson andBrittnee Smith.

West Lincoln erased a 7-1 deficit. The Lady Bears tied the gameand went ahead with a 4-run fifth inning to lead 8-7.
