Case hired to substitute coach at Bogue Chitto

Jack Case is coming out of retirement to help one of his formerplayers at West Lincoln. Case has agreed to serve as a substituteteacher and coach for Bogue Chitto girls basketball coach MickeyMyers, strictly on a substitute teacher basis.

Myers has taken a leave of absence because his wife, Karen, wasdiagnosed with cancer last week. They are at Ochsner Clinic in NewOrleans this week as Mrs. Myers undergoes testing and evaluation bya team of doctors.

“We have hired coach Jack Case as a substitute teacher,” saidBogue Chitto principal Bobby Allen. “He will be coaching girls highschool basketball and junior high girls basketball. He will alsoteach two science classes.”

Case coached 28 years at West Lincoln, plus four years at LoydStar and four more at Eva Harris Junior High. He has 36 years ofcoaching experience.

“We are very fortunate to find somebody who can step in andhandle all the different things that need to be handled.” saidAllen. “He is certified to coach and teach.”

Mrs. Myers was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last weekduring an examination at McComb. “She and Coach Myers are in ourthoughts and prayers,” said Allen.

Coach Myers and his wife have three young children, Brooke,Braden and Blaine. A highly successful coach, he was responsiblefor starting the Bogue Chitto Chapter of the Fellowship ofChristian Athletes several years ago and it is one of the mostactive groups in the area.

Myers coached the Lady Bobcats to a 24-10 record last year andfour starters return from the state tournament semifinalistteam.

Case retired from the field of education in 2000 and the WestLincoln gymnasium was named in his honor. He coached the boys andgirls teams at West Lincoln for several years. His son, Jason,began coaching the boys about eight years ago and was named WestLincoln principal last summer.

Case, 62, is a 1957 graduate of Bogue Chitto. He coachedback-to-back boys state tournament championships at West Lincoln in1981-82.

“I want to help Mickey out in a difficult situation,” said Case.”I taught him and coached him at West Lincoln.” Myers graduatedfrom West Lincoln in 1978.

The first game for Bogue Chitto’s varsity is Nov. 13, at LoydStar.
