9-1 Bogue Chitto whips Cathedral

BOGUE CHITTO -The Bogue Chitto Bobcats are one game away fromclinching second place and the home-field advantage in the stateplayoffs following a 40-13 Region 4-1A win over the NatchezCathedral Green Wave Friday night on Troy Smith Field.

Bogue Chitto improved to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in region play.Cathedral, coached by Ken Beasly, fell to 2-5 in region action and3-5 overall.

The only roadblock in Bogue Chitto’s way is the EnterpriseYellow Jackets. Enterprise (7-3, 6-2) fell 30-22 to the DexterBulldogs (7-3, 6-2) Friday night. Now the Jackets and Bulldogs aretied for third place.

The Jackets will host the Bobcats Friday night. Game time is7:30 p.m.

A victory over Enterprise Friday would clinch Bogue Chittosecond place and the right to host the first round game. A loss by11 points or more to the Jackets would knock the Bobcats down toNo. 3 and put them on the road for the first playoff game.

“Our guys played a great game tonight,” said Cole following thewin. “We played well. We had good opportunities to get the youngerguys to play. We didn’t take Cathedral lightly.”

On the downside, Bogue Chitto was hit with 19 penalties for 139yards. Cathedral was penalized three times for 20 yards.

Senior tailback Denard Ferguson scored on an eight yard run forthe first Bobcat touchdown with 51 seconds left in the firstquarter. Lindsey Jackson kicked his first of four extra points togive Bogue Chitto an early 7-0 lead over Cathedral.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats added three more touchdownsto take a 27-0 lead going into halftime. Senior tailback DomenickAddison recorded his first TD on a seven-yard run. Seniorquarterback Jacob Leggett connect on an 8-yard pass-play to MichaelBlackwell for a TD.

Addison intercepted a Cathedral pass and returned it 56 yards tothe end zone only to have it nulfied on a penalty.

Third-quarter action saw Ferguson break loose for a 19-yardtouchdown and a 34-0 lead following Ernie Johnston’s PAT kick.During this scoring drive, Bogue Chitto was hit with sevenpenalties for 70 yards.

Cathedral finally got on the scoreboard with less than 10minutes left to play on a five-yard carry by Jonathan Jackson. ThePAT kick was good and the Green Wave cut the deficit to 34-7.

On the kickoff, Ferguson took the ball at the Bobcat 5-yard lineand burst down field for a crowd-pleasing 95-yard return for sixpoints. Johnston missed the PAT kick and Bogue Chitto pushed itslead to 40-7 with 9:36 remaining in the game.

“I felt good,” said Ferguson about the kickoff return after thegame. “It was my first runback of the year. I feel good about thewin.”

Cathedral scored its final touchdown against the youngerBobcats. Jamil Jackson ran two-yards for the score. Bogue Chittoblocked the extra point kick.

Bogue Chitto collected 347 total offensive yards and made 10first downs.

Ferguson rushed the football 17 times for 108 yards. Carryingnine times for 146 yards was Addison. Jacob Leggett picked up 23yards on four carries.

Jacob Leggett completed 8 of 10 passes for 64 yards. Blackwellcaught three passes for 32 yards. Addison made two catches for 12yards. Making one catch for seven yards was Paul Martin. Followingwith one catch for five yards was Cody Leggett.

Defensively, Todd Davis and John Wallace paced the Bobcats withseven tackles apiece. Anthony Stevenson recovered a fumble.Intercepting a pass apiece were Blackwell and Addison. Paul Martinhad one quarterback sack.
