Loyd Star whips St. Al

VICKSBURG – The Loyd Star Hornets handed the St. AloysiusFlashes a 67-30 beating Tuesday night in their season opener.

In the varsity girls game, Loyd Star rolled over St. Aloysius50-25.

The Loyd Star boys went up 16-6 in the first quarter and pushedtheir lead to 34-10 at the half.

“Everybody got to play,” said Loyd Star boys coach Gene”Moochie” Britt. “We rebounded well. We ran our offense realgood.”

Jared Britt and Jessie Sones directed the Hornets with 19 pointsapiece. Pumping in 17 points plus nine rebounds and five blockedshots was Jamie Johnson. Sones led off the backboards with 14rebounds.. Britt collected eight steals and had five assists.Collecting eight rebounds and making four assists was SidneyChester.

Sparking St. Aloysius was Kyle Richards with 19 points.

Coach Britt said that several starters from each team weremissing from last night’s game due to the football playoffs.

The Loyd Star girls got a big performance from junior forwardBeth Smith who led with a game-high 22 points (including six3-pointers) and four rebounds. Ava Brown fired in eight points.Jordan Britt made three steals.

Junior High Action

Hayley Ratcliff netted five points in the Loyd Star girls 28-11loss at the hands of St. Aloysius.

In the junior high boys game, St. Aloysius won 25-22.

The junior high tournament at Loyd Star will be held Thursdaynight and Saturday night. The games begin at 4:30.
