Mize 51-0 over Bears

The West Lincoln Bears wrapped up the 2001 football season witha 51-0 loss at the hands of the defending Class 1A state champ MizeBulldogs Thursday night at Perry Miller Field.

Mize (11-0, 9-0) will have home field advantage when the 1Astate football playoffs begin on Nov. 16.

“They played like the No. 1 team,” said West Lincoln headfootball coach Roe Burns. “They have a lot of class. They playedthe game the way it is supposed to be played.”

West Lincoln had four turnovers that Mize converted intotouchdowns last night.

Mize scored four touchdowns in the first quarter to go up 28-0.Jason Ducksworth score the first touchdown on a seven-yard run, JayJohnson caught a 32-yard halfback pass from Joey Sullivan for thesecond TD, Ducksworth broke lose for a 41-yard touchdown and PeteKeyes returned a pass interception 46 yards for the fourth score.Logan Sullivan kicked one PAT,

In the second quarter, Joey Sullivan picked up a Loyd Starfumble and returned it 25-yards for the fifth Mize touchdown.jJoseph Adcock kicked the extra point for a 32-0 lead at the 11:48mark.

The Bulldogs struck again at the 4:02 mark when Cory Keyesexploded for a 31-yard to give Mize a 38-0 lead t halftime.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Mize picked off two WestLincoln pass and returned them both for a pair of TDs. Cory Keyesreturned one for a 51-yard score and Anthony Adcock returned thesecond for a 50-yard touchdown and a 51-0 lead. Jasper Adcockkicked the extra point on the final TD.

West Lincoln finished the season 0-11 and 0-9 in the Region.

The Bears collected eight first downs and 129 yards totaloffense.

Powering the Bears running game was junior tailback Stacy Fellswith 15 rushes for 43 yards. Adam Skates rushed six times for 24yards. Blake Adams collected nine yards and Lee Clark had eightyards.

Adams, Josh Rushing and Jacob Martin combined to complete 5 of10 passes for 58 yards. Richard Green caught three passes for 31yards and Clint Smith had two catches for 22 yards.

On defense, Green, Alan Skates and Casey Roberts ledwith three tackles apiece.
