Enterprise invades Puckett

Enterprise takes its high-powered offense to Puckett Fridaynight for the opening round of the Class 1A state playoffs. Kickoffis 7:30.

Puckett (10-0) enjoyed a perfect season under the direction ofhead coach Lennis Stevens. The Wolves won the Region 3-1Achampionship.

Leading the Wolves is sophomore wingback Terrell Jackson (175)who has scored 13 touchdowns this year. Another prime runner isOtis “O.J.” Johnson (185) at fullback. Senior quarterback TaylorHenry (200) calls the signals.

“Puckett is 10-0 this season and they have a real good footballteam,” said Enterprise coach Ricky Deere who is in his fourth yearat the helm. This is his first state playoff team atEnterprise.

“(Puckett) is quick, strong and aggressive on defense,” saidDeere. “Their running backs have good speed and their quarterbackthrows the ball well.”

According t Deere, Puckett uses a variety of offensivealignments. “They run out of the Power-I, Wing-I and Double Wingsets.”

Deere said his Yellow Jackets (7-4, 6-3) have accomplished muchthis season. They are the No. 4 team in the region.

“We are proud of our football team and what we haveaccomplished,” said Deere. “We are happy to be in theplayoffs.”

Enterprise senior tailback Shermaine Vaughn has led the Jacketsthis season. He has 155 carries for 1,185 yards and 10 rushingtouchdowns. He also has four 2-point conversions.

Senior fullback Bobby Smith has 94 rushes for 514 yards and 9touchdowns. Sophomore Gerard Vaughn has 78 carries for 331 yardsand 2 touchdowns. Senior tailback Monti Crotwell has 31 rushed for193 yards.

Passing finds junior quarterback Justin Kyzar leadingEnterprise. He has completed 43 of 101 passes for 814 yards and 10touchdowns.

Leading receiver for Enterprise is Crotwell with 13 catches for402 yards and 7 TDs. Split end Rufus Allen has caught 16 passes for317 yards and 3 TDs. Tight end Kody Burns has 7 catches for 93yards and 1 TD.

Enterprise placekicker Scott Sasser has made 19 of 24 extrapoints. He is 1-for-1 in field goals, making a 25-yarder againstBogue Chitto is last week’s 20-10 loss.

Shermaine Vaughn has a 77-yard punt return. Pierre Harthornereturned a kickoff 76 yards for at TD against Salem.

Enterprise’s offensive line includes Dale Holmes at righttackle, Matt Runnels at right guard, Justin Bales at center, BillyReeves at left guard and Bobby Lambert at left tackle.

On defense, Shermaine Vaughn leads the Jackets with 125 tackles,including 53 solos at linebacker. He has 4 sacks and 1interception.

Linebacker Chase Raiford has 93 tackles, 34 of them solo stops.Nose guard Josh Pruden has 73 tackles, including 20 solos. Prudenalso has 2 quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery.

Rufus Allen has 76 tackles; 26 solos, including 2 sacks.

Jacket Tracks: Enterprise has enjoyed back-to-back winningrecords under Deere’s guidance. Four years ago he inherited avarsity program that had won just three games in four seasons.
