Co-Lin roughs up Mary Holmes

WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Wolves broke a rough three-gamelosing streak in style Tuesday night as they blasted the MaryHolmes Community College Eagles 88-57 behind sophomore guard BruceSmith’s 15 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals.
In the girls contest, Co-Lin improved to 7-0 behind a forfeitfrom the Lady Eagles. Mary Holmes’ ladies are expected to beginplay in January.
The Wolves (3-4) opened the gates, early and often en route to a42-30 halftime advantage. Every players on the Wolves rosterreceived playing time during the first frame.
In the second half, Co-Lin exploded for 46 points, behind Smithand freshman Tim Horton and James Hawthorne’s breakout night.Horton, a 6-2 guard from Lawrence County, directed the Wolves inthe second half with numerous steals and rebounds. Hawthorne endedthe game with a crowd-pleasing alley-oop from Smith.
“Tim Horton and James Hawthorne played better tonight,” saidCo-Lin head men’s coach Dennis Sims. “Overall, we’re still makingmistakes but our players are still continuing to work hard andtrying to improve.”
Center Quentin Christian had 13 points for Co-Lin.
Sims’s Wolves will face their biggest game of the season Mondaynight as they travel to Perkinston to play South Division foe GulfCoast. Tipoffs are set for 6 p.m. for the women’s game while themen start at 7:45.
