W. Lincoln sacks Cathedral

Senior guard Cody Mitchell pumped in a game-high 21 points todirect the host West Lincoln Bears to a 75-45 Class1A division winover the Green Wave of Natchez Cathedral Tuesday night. Mitchellhit five three-pointers.

In the varsity girls game, Dana King and Alicia Kennedy netted13 points apiece in the Lady Bears’ 67-28 victory over the LadyGreenies.

West Lincoln jumped on Cathedral for a 16-4 lead in thefirst quarter. The Bears maintained their fast breaks andrebounding to outscore the Greenies 21-16 to go into the lockeroomat the half with a 37-20 cushion.

Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter butWest Lincoln broke loose in the final frame for a 28-15 run onCathedral.

On the night, the Bears finished with 12 three-pointers,including Mitchell’s five.

West Lincoln head coach Andy Smithie was pleased withthe win and the Bears’ shooting. “We shot the ball well from theoutside.”

The Bears had five players in doublefigures.

Contributing to the West Lincoln win with 16 points, 12rebounds, three steals and three assists was junior forward LukeLofton. Sam Collins collected 14 points and seven rebounds.Following with 13 points and six rebounds was Tyler Smith. BrooksSmith finished with 10 points, six rebounds and fiveassists.

The Lady Bears finished with eight 3-pointers in thegame. West Lincoln opened the first quarter with a dominating 19-6lead and went to the press in the second quarter to go up 37-15 athalftime.

In the second half, the Lady Bear reserves got to seeplenty of action as they outshot the Lady Greenies 31-13 topreserve the win.

“We let a lot of girls come off the bench,” saidSmithie. “Everybody did their job defensively.”

According to Smithie, the Lady Bears finished the gamewith 30 steals.

Adding support to the West Lincoln win with eight pointswas Kala Shaw. Lauren Smith, Hannah Johnson and Kennedy collectedsix rebounds apiece. Leading with four steals was MonicaPrice.

Kate Prescott paced Cathedral with eightpoints.

Junior Varsity Boys

Cathedral came back in the final minutes to pull out a38-29 win over West Lincoln.

Landon Case led West Lincoln with 17points.

Top scorer for Cathedral was Jeremy Davis with 15points.

West Lincoln resumes play Dec. 3, at Salem.
