C-L women’s tennis team ranked No. 12 in nation

WESSON – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) releasedthe fall national ranking and the Copiah-Lincoln Community CollegeLady Wolves tennis team is ranked No. 12 in the nation. Thisranking is derived from the regional tournaments held in Octoberand the records of returning sophomores.

The Co-lin sophomore doubles team of Bethany Barr of Magee andHolli Adams of Brookhaven (West Lincoln) are ranked No. 8 indoubles. The duo is the reigning State and Region 23 champions inNo. 2 doubles. They were semifinalists in the ITA RegionTournament.

The freshman doubles team of Lindsey Phillips and KimberlyMcBride, both of Brookhaven, is ranked No. 12. They won theconsolation doubles title in the ITA Regional Tournament.

For the first time in school history, the Lady Wolves have fourplayers ranked in singles. Phillips is ranked No. 37, Barr No. 46,Adams No. 51 and McBride No. 63.

“Co-Lin can be very proud of what this team has accomplishedthis fall,” said women’s tennis coach Brenda Smith. “To be ranked12th in the nation and to have four of our singles players rankedis a credit to the members of the team. We’ll need to showconsistent improvement in order to compete with some very talentedteams in the state,”

Regular season matches begin on Feb. 15 as the Lady Wolvestravel to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Three otherMississippi Community Colleges that are also ranked nationally showthe depth in the talent in MACJC women’s tennis.
