Hornets, Lady Jackets win

The host Loyd Star Hornets held off a second-half surge by theEnterprise Yellow Jackets to preserve a close 47-46 win Thursdaynight.

In girls action, Lacey Palomarez’s 30-point outburst guidedEnterprise to a 57-44 victory over Loyd Star. Palomarez alsocollected seven rebounds, eight steals and three assists.

The Hornets (4-1) led 27-19 at the half. Going into the finalframe, Loyd Star held a 39-31 edge but were outscored 15-8 byEnterprise in the final frame but remained one point on top for thewin.

“In the first half, we played well,” said Loyd Star boys coachGene “Moochie” Britt. “In the second half, we got stale. We misseda lot of easy shots. We played well. We rebounded well.”

Demarcus Barnes powered the Hornets with 16 points. Jared Brittnetted 12 points.

For 1-2 Enterprise, Kary Brown led the way with 16 pointsfollowed by Pierre Harthorne with 12 points. Shermaine Vaughn ledoff the backboards with nine rebounds and had four assists. RufusAllen grabbed eight rebounds and made three steals. Harthornefollowed with four steals and four rebounds.

In the girls game, the Lady Jackets broke an 8-all tie in thefirst quarter with a 16-9 run in the second quarter for a 24-17lead at the half. In the second half, Enterprise outscored LoydStar 33-27 to retain the win.

Ashley Harthorne and Joyce Allen netted eight points apiece for3-0 Enterprise. Daisy Sanders pulled down 10 rebounds, made foursteals and had five assists. Ashley Harthorne grabbed ninerebounds.

Leading Loyd Star (2-3, 1-1) with 10 points each were JamakiaHenderson and Beth Smith. Henderson also collected eight reboundsand made two steals. Beth Smith had six assists.

Junior high scores

In the boys game, Loyd Star (5-2) whipped Enterprise 39-18.Tyler Williford led the Hornets with 13 points. Brett Fells had 10points.

Terrell May led Enterprise with six points.

The Lady Jackets clipped the 1-6 Lady Hornets 19-13 in juniorhigh play. Kristen Newell had three points for Loyd Star.

Savannah Palomarez powered Enterprise with 11 points.
