Co-Lin women get victory over Delgado

NEW ORLEANS – Mindy Livaudais pumped in 26 points and pulleddown 10 rebounds to lead the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a 78-71 win overthe Delgado Community College Dolphins Tuesday night. Livaudais, a6-foot sophomore from the Crescent City, was playing in front ofsome of her relatives last night.

In men’s action, Delgado knocked off Co-Lin 90-77.

The Co-Lin women (9-0) held a slim 32-31 leadover Delgado at halftime. The Lady Wolves outscored the LadyDolphins 46-40 in the second half to secure the seven-pointwin.

“It’s always a tough game at their place,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young. “They got after us pretty good. Our girls playedhard and it was good to win on the road.”

Contributing to the Co-Lin win with 18 points and seven reboundwas Tiania Burns. Christy Brown followed with 11 points and 14rebounds. Gwen Smith made three steals and had five assists.

Candie Burnett’s 20 points and 10 rebounds paced Delgado. ElishaHowell followed with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The 3-6 Co-Lin men, coached by Dennis Sims, trailedDelgado by 11 points, 50-39, at the half. The Dolphins pushed theirlead to 13 points at the end for the win.

Top scorer for the Wolves was B.J. Black with 21 pointsand five rebounds. Jason Scott fired in 17 points and collectedfive rebounds. Scoring 14 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and makingthree steals was Carl Minor. Bruce Smith finished with 10 pointsand two assists.

Charles Jones directed Delgado with 21 points and 11rebounds. Nineteen points was scored by Greg Brown. Eric Mercierfollowed with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Co-Lin resumes basketball play following the ChristmasHoliday on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, hosting Delgado. The women’s gamebegins at 6 p.m.
