Hornets ambush St. Joe

Demarcus Barnes and Jermaine Hunter pumped in 18 points apieceto lead the host Loyd Star Hornets to a 57-41 Division 6-2A winover the Madison St. Joseph Bruins Friday night. Barnes also ledoff the backboards with 19 rebounds, made two steals and had eightassists.

In the girls matchup, Jordan Britt and Jamika Henderson fired in13 points apiece to spark the Lady Hornets to a 67-46 victory overthe Lady Bruins.

“We played really well as a team tonight,” said Loyd Star boyscoach Gene “Moochie” Britt. “I am pleased with the way we played.We rebounded really well.”

Contributing to the Loyd Star win with eight points apiece wereJared Britt and Seth Britt. Hunter pulled down six rebounds. SethBritt had four assists.

Loyd Star improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in division play.

Scoring 15 points for St. Joe was Chris Shaidraglo with 15points. Clint Luckett netted 11 points.

The Lady Hornets (4-4, 2-2) got added support from Ava Brownwith 11 points, including 3 three pointers, eight rebounds and foursteals. Sarah Lofton made five steals. Beth Smith also netted 11points.

“I am glad we got to play everybody,” said Loyd Star girls coachLori Britt. ‘We played hard.”

J.K Holden paced St. Joseph with 12 points. Mandy Andrews scored11 points.

Loyd Star hosts Franklin County Monday night for three games.The junior high game begins at 5 p.m.
