Lawrence teams win; Jefferson dominates

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Cougars handed the FranklinCounty Bulldogs a 51-36 defeat Thursday night in the hoststournament.

In the other boys game, Prentiss slipped past Mendenhall 61-58in double overtime.

The girls games saw Lawrence County clip Franklin County 58-41and Mendenhall squash Prentiss 44-22.

The Lawrence boys were led to the win by Chris Bridge’s 15points. Netting 10 points was Eric Stringer.

Franklin County got 15 points from Anthony Wilcher. Bobby Hunternetted 11 points.

Standout Al Jefferson directed Prentiss with a game-high 26points and 13 rebounds. John Hooker added 19 points.

The score was tied 46-46 at the end of regulation and 53-53 atthe end of the first overtime.

In second OT, Jefferson hit a short field goal and a free throwfor a 59-55 Prentiss lead. Nedric Brown hit two free throws withfive seconds left to secure the win.

The first overtime ended with Jonathan G. Walker hitting a treyfor Mendenhall as time expired to tie the game at 53-all.

Prentiss Coach Lonnie McLemore said, “This the worst game wehave played this year.” The Bulldogs were minus starting forwardAntwan Pittman whose mother was ill.

Prentiss improved to 18-2 and Mendenhall fell to 10-8.
