Friday fire destroys county house

Four fire departments rushed to the scene of a house fire at2168 Shaddo Lane Friday night, but were unable to save thehome.

Zetus Volunteer Fire Department was notified of the fire at 6:25p.m. Friday, said Chief Dale Anding, and Zetus and Loyd Star VFDwere dispatched to the scene.

The two-story half-brick home, owned by David Posey, was fullyinvolved on arrival, Anding said, and Zetus requested that HogChain and Bogue Chitto VFDs also be dispatched.

Anding said he wasn’t able to say if the homeowners were presentwhen the fire started.

“I’m not really certain, but some relatives were there and theygot some things out,” he said.

The relatives were only able to save a few things, he said,mentioning a computer and television set.

Firefighters left the scene around 9 p.m., but were called backabout 9:45 p.m. when a few hot spots flared back up. Theyextinguished the hot spots and returned to the station around 1:30a.m. Saturday, Anding said.

Anding was thankful of the assistance of the otherdepartments.

“I believe we all worked well together and we did the best wecould,” he said, “but it was a real hot and intense fire.”

The cause of the fire has not been determined, he said.
