9-0 Lady Wolves resume play tonight

WESSON – Owning a 9-0 record and a No. 15 national ranking, theCopiah-Lincoln Community College women’s basketball team launchesthe second half of its season tonight in Mullen Gymnasium. TheCo-Lin Lady Wolves host Delgado of New Orleans, starting at 6 p.m.,followed by the men’s game at 7:45.
“We still have a lot of improvements to make,” said Co-Linwomen’s coach Gwyn Young, reviewing his team’s unbeaten start. “Weneed to get better in all aspects of the game, especially defense.We can do a better job blocking out on rebounding.”
Offensively, the Lady Wolves are led by freshman guard TianiaBurns of Nashville, Tenn. The 5-foot-7 playmaker is averaging 21.5points per game. She makes 50 percent of her field goal attemptsand 80 percent at the free throw line.
Sophomore post Mindy Livaudais of New Orleans is Co-Lin’s secondleading scorer. She averages 15.1 points per game.
Christy Brown, a sophomore post player from Zachary, La.,averages 14.1 ppg. She has accounted for a team-best 91rebounds.
Shaquita Smith, a 5-11 sophomore from Union Church, averages 7.1ppg. Lindsay Altman, a 5-10 freshman forward from Ruth, averages5.1 points per game.
Laurie Ann Davis, a 5-11 sophomore forward from Natchez,averages 4.8 ppg.
As a team, the Lady Wolves are averaging 81.6 ppg. Opponentsaverage 62.1 ppg.
On the backboards, Brown averages 11.4 rebounds per game.Livaudais averages 8.4 rpg, Burns 6.6, Smith 5.1 and Altman 4.8. Asa team, Co-Lin averages 49 rpg.
Burns averages 2.6 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Livaudaisaverages 2.5. assists per game.
Coach Young said freshman guard Roberta Johnson of Enterprisetore an ACL in the Dec. 11 game at Delgado. She underwent kneesurgery Dec. 31 and will miss the remainder of the season.
