Services for Joshua David “J. D.” Watkins Jr. of Brookhaven are1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at Alexander Jr. High School with burialin Carver Heights Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 1-6 p.m. at Tyler Funeral Home. Thewake will be Friday from 7-8 p.m. at Avery Chapel A.M.E.Church.
Mr. Watkins, 71, died Jan. 12, 2002, at his residence. He wasborn in Copiah County on Sept. 16, 1930, to the Rev. Joshua DavidWatkins Sr. and Bessie Hall Watkins. He was a 1949 graduate ofAlexander High School.
He was a former meat processor for Jones Custom Processing formore than 45 years and was co-owner for four years. He was a memberof Avery Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he served as a steward,trustee and a class leader. He was a member of the Joenathan Lodge#3.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Willie B.Watkins; and his son, Anthony Watkins.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Burge “Doll” Watkins ofBrookhaven; his sons, Andrade Watkins of Brookhaven and AndreaWatkins of Killeen, Texas; his daughters, Sheila Miller of Chicago,and Peggy Wells, Suzette Watkins, Penelope Banks and PhilippiaJefferson, all of Brookhaven; his brothers, Calvin Watkins of LosAngeles, Johnny Watkins and Samuel Watkins, both of Springfield,Mass., Roy Watkins of Chicago, and Ernest Watkins of Philadelphia,Penn.; his sisters, Mamie Chapman of Natchez, Catherine Johnson andJo Anna Wilbert, both of Brookhaven, Vella Crisler of CrystalSprings and Alberta Watkins of Yeadon, Pennsylvania; and 20grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces andnephews.
