Oak Forest ambushes BA girls in overtime

AMITE, La. – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars fell to the OakForest Lady Yellow Jackets 40-36 in overtime in District 4-AAaction Friday night. In overtime, Oak Forest beat Brookhaven topull out the win.

In the varsity boys game, Brookhaven Academy beat Oak Forest72-27.

The Lady Cougars, coached by Barry Gray, led 8-7 in the firstquarter, 15-13 in the second quarter and 25-23 at the end of thethird quarter.

The Brookhaven girls are 24-3 on the season and 7-1 in district.It was the second straight loss for the Lady Cougars who lost toCopiah Academy Tuesday night.

Freshman guard Lauren Smith powered the Lady Cougars with 18points and grabbed three rebounds. Scoring nine points and pullingdown 10 rebounds was junior center Anna Gatlin. Collecting 10rebounds, three two steals and three assists was senior forwardAncy Myers.

Oak Forest got 12 points from Brennan Fitzgerald. Netting 10points was Brittany Oliver.

In the boys game, Paul Coker powered Brookhaven with 20 points.Netting 18 points was Jimmy Latham. Chase Magee scored ninepoints.

The Cougars went on top 17-11 in the first quarter. A 15-3 runput Brookhaven up 32-14 over Oak Forest at the half.

Dillon Chatman led Oak Forest with nine points.
