DECATUR – The Co-Lin women and men’s basketball team sufferedlosses at the hands of East Central Thursday night.

The host Lady Warriors came back in the second half to pull outa 72-66 win over the Lady Wolves.

In men’s action, East Central took the led by the half and neverrelinquished it to beat the Co-Lin 77-64.

The Co-Lin women (16-2, 6-2) led 30-23 over East Central (11-7,5-3) at the half. The Lady Warriors went on a 10-4 run in the firstthree minutes of the second half to cut the Lady Wolves lead to onepoint, 34-33. At the 14:52 mark, Lori Cumberland hit a trey to giveEast Central a 43-41 lead.

Co-Lin sophomore guard Alexya Irvin sustained an ankle injury asthe first half ended. Irvin missed the second half and may missMonday’s game with Hinds.

Powering the Lady Wolves was Tiania Burns with 20 points andfour steals. Lindsay Altman netted 12 points followed by ShaquitaSmith with 10 points.

Nikki Lacour directed the Lady Warriors with a game-high 24points. Cumberland and Christina Ford collected 14 pointsapiece.

In the men’s game, East Central (8-10, 3-5) roared outto a 15-4 led over Co-Lin (6-12, 3-4) in the first three minutes ofthe first half. At the half, the Warriors led the Wolves 42-33.Co-Lin got outscored 35-31 in the second half.

“We dug ourselves in a hole early,” said Wolves men’scoach Dennis Sims. “We cut the led to one but weren’t able toexecute down the stretch.”

The Warriors, coached by Bill Smith, are now in a fourthplace tie with the Wolves in the South Division.

East Central was paced by Baton Rouge, La., productCorey Hornsby with 26 points, 10 rebounds and threesteals.

Powering Co-Lin with 15 points, five assists and twosteals was sophomore guard Bruce Smith.
