Graveside services for Bennett North Cole of Ft. Lauderdale,Fla., are 2 p.m. today at Easthaven Cemetery.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at BrookhavenFuneral Home.

Mr. Cole, 54, died Feb. 16, 2002, at Weston, Fla. He was born inRaleigh, N.C., and lived in Brookhaven with his grandparents,Roland B. and Annie Claire Wall, for two years in the late 1940’s.He was a graduate of East Carolina University and received master’sdegrees in English and business administration from the Universityof North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also received a master’sdegree in English education from Florida InternationalUniversity.

He had worked at the Miami Herald as a manager in thecirculation department for 10 years. He was an instructor at NovaSoutheastern University and Broward Community College. Hesubstituted at many Ft. Lauderdale schools. He was an accomplishedmusician, playing piano, trumpet, and guitar. He was a MarineSergeant in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Good ConductMedal.

Survivors are his wife, Mia Cole of Ft. Lauderdale; his sons,Sam, Matthew, and Peter, all of Ft. Lauderdale; his parents, Benand Jeanne Cole of Mooresboro, N.C.; his brother, Gene Cole ofAsheville, N.C.; and his sister, Susan Hewitt of Charlotte,N.C.
