Authorities have seen an outpouring of concern but few leads inthe search for a Brookhaven man and his four children.

“We got a lot of calls yesterday from people who had seen it inthe newspaper and wanted to help, but were just reporting seeinghim last week,” said Lincoln County Sheriff Lynn Boyte.

Earl “Mutt” Wallace Jr., 38, picked up his four children –Garrett, 12; Hunter, 11; Abbey, 7; and Kitty Claire, 3 — fromschool Friday for his scheduled weekend visit with them but did notreturn them Sunday to his ex-wife, Kristin Wallace.

Mutt Wallace told family members he was planning a trip with thechildren to a friend’s house in north Mississippi, but he nevershowed up there, said Kristin Wallace.

When contacted, the friend told her that he was unaware of theplans, she said.

Authorities know only that the Wallaces were seen in BrookhavenFriday and in Jackson Saturday.

“We had some people come to our house at 10 o’clock last nightto tell us they’d seen them at the mall (in Jackson) Saturday,”said Boyte, mentioning that he appreciates the assistance from thecommunity.

Other reports given to authorities were from people who had seenthe Wallaces in a silver 1984 Lincoln Town Car, with tag number JHJ053, in Brookhaven and Jackson.

“We really haven’t gotten any new information other than peoplehad seen him, but nobody has since Saturday,” said Boyte.

Kristin Wallace said she has received numerous phone calls andvisits from people concerned about her children and ex-husband.

“I’ve had a lot of support from friends and family,” shesaid.
