Co-Lin sweeps Southwest in South Division baseball

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves swept the Southwest Bears in a SouthDivision doubleheader Tuesday at Sullivan Field. Co-Lin won theopener 7-1 and the finale 12-4.

Southwest (1-3, 0-2) dominated the Wolves early on as freshmenpitcher Lucian Weber struck out the first five Co-Lin batters.
The Wolves (7-2, 2-0) got their first hits off singles fromChase Coley and Arlandus Brown. The Wolves added a walk ofsophomore shortstop Kyle Beall to load the bases followed by a walkof third baseman Ryan Davis to send Coley home for a 2-0 lead.. TheWolves scored their first run when Brown singled in pinch-runningfreshman Mitch Mangum. Mangum was running for catcher David Graywho got on base via a walk earlier in the second.
“I’m glad we won,” said Wolves head coach Keith Case. “Theirleft (Weber) came out and dominated us in the first game early.That six-run third was big for us.
“Derek pitched a real good first game,” added Case. “Our guyscame back and put up some runs in the second game. Southwest’sdefense really held us down in the first game.”
The Wolves added three mores runs when freshmen Cole Zumbrodoubled in Brown, Beall and Davis. After a Matt Lea double, thatscored Zumbro, the Wolves ended the third ahead 6-0.
The Bears scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth whenfreshman Brady Sieige doubled in Justin Chasson.
Wolves pitcher Derek Atkins (3-0) collected the win with 5strikeouts. Atkins allowed one run on four hits in seven innings ofaction.
Weber was issued the loss. He had six strikeouts, allowed sixruns on four hits and two walks.
At the plate, Brown collected two singles. Zumbro and Lea addeddoubles.
Leading Southwest was Sledge with a double.

The Wolves added three runs in each of the first four innings.During the Wolves 12 run spree, Paris Dancy and Chris Robinsonhighlighted them with home runs over rightfield fence. They are nowtied for the homer lead on the team with two apiece.
Bears catcher Jason Holmes added a solo shot in the fifth.
The Bears finished the game with nine hits to the Wolves 13.
Zumbro (1-0) gained the win with two strikeouts. He allowed twowalks, three runs and three hits. Freshmen Michael pitched thefifth allowing one run. Brookhaven product Kendall Poole ended thegame in the sixth and seventh with three strikeouts. Poole allowedno runs.
Derrik Lougue suffered the loss with three strikeouts. TeammateMichael DuMiller added two strikeouts.
The Wolves resume play Saturday at 1 p.m. against Jones JuniorCollege.
Brown led the Wolves in game two with a double, a single and twostolen bases.
Holmes led the Bears with a homer and a single.
