WESSON – With their backs against the wall twice and the lead attheir back early, the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves were overwhelmed by theupset-minded Jones County Junior College Bobcats 10-9 in theSaturday afternoon game and 7-5 in the nightcap on SullivanField.

“This one was tough,” said Co-Lin coach Keith Case. “I’m proudof how we battled but we made mental and physical mistakes thathurt us in both games. I feel both teams played well. Jones justmade the extra plays and we didn’t.”

This was the Wolves’ first South Division losses of the seasonas they drop to a 2-2 in the South race. The Wolves resume playthis week with three non-division games starting with adoubleheader with Kishwaukee Monday at 4:00.

The Wolves (7-4, 2-2) began the first game of the doubleheaderin a bind. The Wolves spotted the Bobcats (8-7, 2-0) a quick 2-0lead off singles from sophomores Wyn Spencer, Ricky Brazeale, andChad Mcllwain. The Wolves allowed the Bobcats five hits in thefirst after committing one error.

Co-Lin would respond with a four run answer for the Bobcats intheir half of the first, off doubles from Kyle Beall and ColeZumbro. A Matt Lea triple and a David Gray single gave the Wolvesthe command after one.

After that it was all Jones. The Bobcats used a four run secondand a three run seventh to take the game over. The Cats allowed theWolves two runs in the fifth off a two RBI double from sophomorecatcher David Gray. Gray’s long hit sent third baseman Ryan Davisand right fielder Paris Dancy home, for a 7-6 deficit.

The Wolves had a chance to win the game in the seventh, but aKyle Beall grounder ended any hopes of that. The Wolves had placedthree runs on the board before the final out closed the door onCo-Lin’s chances of an undefeated South Division season. The lossalso ended the Wolves winning streak at two.

Collecting the win for the Bobcats was sophomore Matt McAlpenwith six strikeouts and five walks.

Co-Lin freshman Mitch Mangum suffered the loss with onestrikeout and one base on balls.

At the plate the Wolves were led by Dancy and Beall with twosingles and double each. Gray collected a double and single.

For the Bobcats, sophomore Donnie Dearman led with two doubles.Spencer and freshman Craig Bush belted in a double and a singleapiece.

In game two, the Wolves made sure they had thelead early by collecting two runs in the first. Co-Lin added athird run in the second off a Chase Coley single that sent homeLea. The Wolves scored their first two runs off their B&Bconnection in Arlandus Brown and Kyle Beall. Both Brown and Beallcollected a stolen base in the first inning of action.

The Bobcats added their first run in the third off a Spencergrounder that sent freshman leftfielder Jonathan Robertson home.The Wolves would add themselves a run in the fifth off a Beallsingle, that scored Brown.

In the sixth, the Bobcats exploded. Jones used a Co-Lin errorand singles by Bush, Sullivan and freshman Scott Robertson to takethe lead 7-4 on the Wolves.

Not only did the score explode, but tempers did too when Co-Linpitcher Derek Atkins threw a wild pitch that allowed Bush to scorefor the lead. Bush and Atkins then exchanged words at home plateafterward’s before being restrained.

The Wolves would add a run in the seventh but it wasn’t enoughas Jones again erupted in celebration with another come from behindvictory.

Coach Case’s Wolves belted out nine hits in the contest. Beallled all batters with a double, two singles, and a stolen base.Brown and sophomore first baseman Chris Robinson each collected twosingles.

For the Bobcats, Scott Robertson paced Jones with a triple and asingle. Sullivan collected two singles.

On the mound, Atkins suffered his first loss of the season withsix strikeouts and two walks.

Collecting the win for Jones was Chris Holloman (4-0) an earlyUniversity of Texas signee with eight strikeouts and three walks.Holleman was coming off a no-hitter last Tuesday against Jeff DavisCommunity College in Alabama.
