WESSON – Playing in only their fourth game of the year theKishwaukee (Ill.) Kougars entered Sullivan Field Monday afternoonwith visions of playing a doubleheader with the Copiah-LincolnWolves. After a 9-5 loss to the Wolves in the first game, theKougars were only left with a postponed second game which wascalled after four innings of action due to rain.

Both teams are expected to resume play today at 1 p.m., unlessweather conditions worsen.

Co-Lin 9, Kishwaukee 5

In the first game, the Wolves (8-4)and the Kougars (1-3)exchanged back to back opening innings with a scoreless tie. In thethird the Kougars’ mighty bats began swinging as they opened a 2-0lead off singles from sophomores Ross Van DeHey and Eric Johnson.The Kougars, looking for a warmer climate, had opened their seasonover the weekend at Hinds and East Mississippi before traveling toWesson.

The Wolves greeted the Kougar attack in their half of the thirdwith three hard-earned runs, highlighted by a Kyle Beall singlethat sent freshman leftfielder Chase Coley home for a 3-2 lead.

In the fourth, the Kougars answered the Wolves with a two runhomer by sophomore catcher Brady Noll. The Kougars ended their halfof the fourth leading 4-3, but the Wolves made sure that was thelast time the Kougars would lead as they added three pivotal runsin the bottom half of the fourth off a key single from Coley thatsent home freshmen Paris Dancy and Cole Zumbro.

Kishwaukee added a lone run in the fifth, off a Pat Flynn soloblast.

The Wolves answered that with another three run inning that washighlighted by a two run bomb by Zumbro. Zumbro’s left field blastwas estimated to be at least 380 feet before hitting a few pinetrees at the top.

The Wolves would end the game on the pitching performance ofLawrence County freshman Michael Edwards and savor the win. Edwardsa 5-foot-9, 140 pound Monticello native, struck out the last threeKougar batters for the victory.

Collecting the mound win was sophomore Seth Lofton, a 6-1, 195pound pitcher from Brookhaven (Loyd Star). Lofton gained his firstvictory on the season with two strikeouts and five walks. Loftonmissed the last two weeks of action due to wrist problems hesustained in an earlier game this season.

Suffering the loss for the Kougars was Nekoosa, Wis. nativeKorey Klien with six walks. Klien allowed six runs and four hits infour and half innings of work. He also threw four wild pitcheswhich allowed two Co-Lin runs to score.

At the plate, Co-Lin was led by Beall with three singles and twostolen bases. Coley added two singles.

For the Kougars, Flynn led with a single and a home run.

In Game Two, the Kougars rushed out to a 5-2lead, before play was called in the fourth due to heavy rain.Action is expected to resume today at 1:00, followed by a nineinning contest around 3 p.m.
