Newman named Junior Miss

Sarah Newman was named Lincoln County’s Junior Miss 2002 in thecontest held at Alexander Junior High School Auditorium Saturdaynight.

Newman is the daughter of Henry and Vickie Newman and attendsBrookhaven Academy. She said she was excited to be named JuniorMiss and happy that her hard work had resulted in the victory.

“It’s finally paid off and I am so excited,” Newman said.

In a family connection, Newman’s older sister Katie was the 2000Lincoln County Junior Miss. The younger Newman said it was specialthat they were both able to win.

As the winner, Newman receives a $2,500 scholarship and giftsfrom a variety of Brookhaven businesses. She will represent LincolnCounty in the state contest later this year.

“I’m so excited and I can’t wait to go to Meridian,” Newmansaid.

Kelsey McNamee, the daughter of Bobby and Margie McNamee, waschosen as first alternate. She attends Brookhaven High School.

Second alternate was Anna Beth Smith. She is the daughter ofGary Smith, and Phillip and Tabby Reid, and attends Brookhaven HighSchool.

Kensy Lee Hoff was chosen as third alternate. She is thedaughter of Greg and Jody Hoff and attends Brookhaven HighSchool.

Also earning honors during the program were:

* Junior Miss Has-Been Association Award, presented by formerprogram winners: Anna C. Smith.

* Be Your Best Self Essay Award: Kensy Hoff.

* Spirit of Junior Miss Award: Megan Russell.

* Escort of the Year: Josh Brister.

* Volunteer of the Year: Mandy Dann.
