Wolves split with Pearl River

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves split a South Division doubleheaderwith the Pearl River Community College Wildcats Tuesday night.Co-Lin won the opener 4-3 and fell to Pearl River 4-1 in the finaleon Sullivan Field.

“They (Pearl River) brought in a quality team,” said Co-Lin headbaseball coach Keith Case of the split. Case said two Wildcatpitchers have already signed with LSU.

Co-Lin went up 4-1 over Pearl River in the bottom of thefourth inning. The Wildcats came back with two runs in the top ofthe seventh to close the deficit to 4-3.

Posting the win was freshman Cole Zumbro (4-0) ofMeadville with five strikeouts and three walks in seveninnings.

Jerrod Salazar absorbed the loss, working five inningswith five strikeouts and one walk. Josh O’Flynn worked the finalinnings.

“Zumbro did a good job in the first game,” statedCase.

Paris Dancy, Brandon Holleman and Christopher Robinsondoubled for the Wolves. Arlandus Brown and Matt Lea collected twohits apiece.

For the Wildcats, Jeff Middleton and Jabol Cookdoubled.

Pearl River 4, Co-Lin 1

In the second game, Pearl River scored single runs inthe first three innings and followed with one in the top of thefifth for a 4-0 lead. Co-Lin scored its one run in the bottom ofthe sixth.

Chris Thompson, who averaged 91-92 miles per hour withhis pitches, recorded the win with five strikeouts in five andone-third innings. O’Flynn finished out the game.

Freshman Kendall Poole (1-2) absorbed the loss, with onestrikeout and one walk. Relieving Poole after five and one-thirdinnings was Michael Edwards.

Case complimented Poole but felt the Co-Lin defensedidn’t back up the pitching in the second game. The Wolvescommitted five errors in the second game and two in thefirst.

Collecting three hits for Co-Lin was sophomore catcherDavid Gray. Ryan Davis ripped two singles.

Justin Greg doubled for the 20-7 Wildcats.

Co-Lin (17-11, 6-6 ) hosts Delgado today for two games.The first game begins at 4 p.m.
