Services Tuesday for Hansel King

Services are Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Easthaven Baptist Church forHansel W. King, who served as superintendent of Brookhaven Parksand Recreation for 36 years.

Mr. King, 62, of Brookhaven, died April 17, 2002, at ForrestGeneral Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church. Burialwill be at Riverwood Cemetery.

Mr. King was a graduate of Delta State University. He was anactive deacon and Sunday School teacher at Easthaven. His strongfaith often carried him through adversities and tragedy, aboutwhich he never complained.

Along with his 36 years as parks and recreations superintendent,he was a long-standing volunteer. He coached pee wee football,little league baseball, and served in many civic clubs andorganizations. He devoted 26 years to ASA softball as districtcommissioner, and 30 years to the Southwest Mississippi FootballOfficials Association.

Mr. King’s love for and commitment to the young people was thebasis for his tireless work in helping to establish one of thefinest parks and recreation departments in Mississippi, as well asBrookhaven’s state of the art sports complex.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he shared the bountythrough cooking competitions, church gatherings, or just withfriends, which included just about everyone he encountered.

Mr. King was a wonderful friend, a devoted husband and a lovingfather. He was an ideal and a model of all that is good and decentand worthwhile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loyd King,and a son, Wayne King.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Lou Jones King of Brookhaven; adaughter, Louann King of Las Vegas; brothers, Loyd “Red” King ofLiberty, Jerry King of Sumrall and Sam King of Madison; a sister,Ginger Randazzo of Amite County; a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Easthaven Baptist Church Building Fund,Brookhaven; or to the Wayne King Scholarship Fund at Copiah-LincolnCommunity College, Wesson.

Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of services.
