Six face charges in weekend arrests

Two Brookhaven men and four juveniles face criminal chargesafter a busy weekend for Brookhaven police officers.

Kentory Benson, 22, of 704 Hines Street, was arrested andcharged with two counts of armed robbery and possession of a weaponafter a robbery was reported early Sunday morning, according toBrookhaven Police Chief Arlustra “Pap” Henderson.

LaPatrick K. Daniels, 24, of 1274 Brookway Boulevard Extension,was charged with three counts of burglary of a commercial buildingafter allegedly breaking into three rooms at a local motel Sunday,Henderson said.

Also over the weekend, Henderson said four juveniles werearrested and turned over to youth court authorities after beingconnected to the vandalism of school property.

According to Henderson, Benson was just released from prison afew months ago. In the latest incident, he allegedly robbed two menat gun point around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Police reports show that two men were sitting in their vehicleat a convenience store on East Monticello Street when another manpulled up in a gold Plymouth and talked with them a few minutes.Henderson said the two men saw the subject pull away and go to anearby car wash, where he stayed a few minutes and left.

Then, the two men said someone matching the same description asthe driver of the gold Plymouth entered their vehicle through therear passenger side door.

“The subject raised the front of his shirt and pulled a pistolout. He demanded that they give him money or he would kill both ofthem,” said Henderson.

The two men gave the subject an undisclosed amount of money andthe subject ran off on foot, according to police reports. Bensonwas arrested shortly afterward and was identified as the sameperson who had been driving the Plymouth.

Henderson complimented officers on the work that led to Benson’sarrest.

In another case, Daniels was arrested for allegedly breakinginto eight rooms at Best Inns and Suites. He was not staying at themotel and did not report knowing anyone there.

He was seen breaking into a room by an employee. The employeecalled authorities, who later apprehended him in one of the roomsthat was broken into, said Henderson.

Motel guests did not report any missing items after their roomswere forced open.

Mamie Martin Elementary School was the target of a weekendvandalism case where the school’s new bird bath and fountain areawas ransacked, said Henderson.

Four juveniles were allegedly involved in the vandalism. Theywere turned over to their parents and will be handled through thejuvenile court system, said Henderson.
