Pearl River Wildcats record baseball sweep of Wolves

POPLARVILLE – A 2-run homer by third baseman Erick Adkins in thebottom of the seventh lifted Pearl River to a 6-5 South Divisionvictory over the Co-Lin Wolves in the nightcap of Saturday’stwinbill. It was his 11th homer of the year.
Pearl River (35-7, 20-4), the South Division champion, achieveda sweep by winning the opener 4-0. Co-Lin needed at least onevictory to clinch a berth in the Region 23 Division IITournament.
The Wolves (26-19, 12-12), who are 6-6 in region games, play atHinds Community College in Raymond Thursday night to determine aberth in the regional tournament. The Eagles also are 6-6 in theregion. Pearl River will host the region tournament May 10-12.
“It was a tough loss,” said Co-Lin coach Keith Case. “It was theworst-case scenario for us.”

Jared Salazar (9-3), an LSU signee, handcuffed Co-Lin with a4-hitter. He only threw 14 balls in the 7-inning game. He did issue1 base on balls and struck out 6.
“We couldn’t play defense on the infield,” said Coach Case,recounting his team’s 5 errors
Losing pitcher Cole Zumbro pitched well enough to win mostgames. Zumbro only gave up one earned run. He allowed 8 hits,struck out 5 and walked 4.
Leftfielder Justin Gros led the Wildcats with a single and adouble. Blaine Munna singled home a runner.
The Wolves got a triple from David Gray and a a double fromParis Dancy. Kyle Beall and Chase Coley singled.
Pearl River 6, Co-Lin 5
Centerfielder Arlandus Brown led Co-Lin with 3 hits. LeftfielderFred Perkins had 2 hits. Collecting singles were Kyle Beall, DavidGray, Christopher Robinson, Coley and Matt Lea.
Collin Smith (6-0), an LSU signee, was the winning pitcher inrelief. Smith relieved Josh O’Flynn in the seventh. Chris Thompsonstarted on the mound for PRCC and was replaced by O’Flynn in thethird. O’Flynn fanned 6 batters.
Pearl River got a homer and a single from Jabrel Cook.
Mitch Mangum (6-1) absorbed the loss. He relieved Seth Lofton inthe seventh a gave up the game-winning homer.
Kendall Poole started on the mound for Co-Lin. In 2 innings, hestruck out 3 and held the Wildcats.
Lofton went 4.2 innings. He struck out 2 batters and walked1.
