Bogue Chitto honors athletes at banquet

Athletes in all sports were honored Monday night at the BogueChitto Athletic Awards Banquet held at the Brookhaven/LincolnCounty Multi-Purpose Building. Receiving special awards were JohnWallace, the Monty Moak Award; and Brian Vinson Wallace, BogueChitto FCA Athlete of the Year.

Bogue Chitto principal Bobby Allen served as master ofceremonies last night and welcomed the large crowd. JenniferWorsham, president of the Bogue Chitto Fellowship of ChristianAthletes, provided the invocation.

Allen thanked the decorating committee and Bogue Chitto BoosterClub president Perry Brown for their hard work during the schoolyear. He also expressed appreciation to Lincoln CountySuperintendent of Education Perry Miller and board member JoannHolmes for their support and presence at the banquet.

Football coach Carl Cole presented awards to his varsity teammembers and congratulated them on their outstanding season. TheBobcats enjoyed their greatest campaign, finished 11-2 and advancedto the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs.

Senior linebacker John Wallace presented an autographed footballto Coach Cole who has accepted a high school coaching position inGeorgia after four years at Bogue Chitto.

Coach Mickey Myers presented the girls basketball awards. Hethanked the school and the community for their support during hiswife’s illness. Karen Myers was diagnosed with gastric cancer lastOctober and underwent surgery in January during the peak of thebasketball season.

Myers thanked interim coach Jack Case for coming out ofretirement and helping coach the Lady Bobcats. They posted a 21-7record and reached the semifinals of the state tournament.

Junior guard Jessica Melton was recognized as Player of theYear.

Coach Adrianne Albritton presented the slowpitch softballawards. Junior Randi Moak was named Most Valuable Player, leadingthe Lady Bobcats to the state playoffs.

Cheerleader sponsor Traci Crain congratulated her squad fortheir efforts during the school year.

Coach Theo “Bo” Black presented the boys basketball awards andcongratulated his Bobcats for winning the Division 7-1A Tournamentand posting at 16-10 record.

Senior guard Carlos Brown was named MVP.

Coach Cole presented the baseball awards. Senior pitcher JacobLeggett led a trio of .400 Club honorees and batted a probableschool-record .510.

Coach Albritton presented the fastpitch softball awards.Freshman pitcher Meleah Brown was named MVP.

Coach Donnie Stuart presented the tennis awards. Randi Moak wasrecognized for winning the district girls singles championship.

Allen coached the golf team and presented two awards. Drew Yawnwas recognized as team medalist.

Myers presented the Monty Moak Award to John Wallace and theBogue Chitto FCA Athlete of the Year Award to Brian VinsonWallace.

Allen recognized Bogue Chitto’s two Lindy CallahanScholar-Athlete nominees, seniors Marquita Ratcliff and JohnWallace.

“Bogue Chitto has great people, great teachers and greatstudents,” said Allen. “These last three years as principal havethe best years of my life and also the toughest, due to thetragedies at our school. We are losing two folks who we can’treplace. You don’t replace people like Coach Myers and Coach Cole.I love these two men. One day you students will realize how blessedyou were to have been taught and coached by these two men.”

The Rev. Hal Hatten closed the program with a benediction.
