The Memorial Day weekend was a pleasant and relaxing time formost Lincoln County residents with few problems reported to lawenforcement officers, authorities said.
“We had a very successful holiday weekend. We had no seriousproblems in the city,” said Brookhaven Police Chief Arlustra “Pap”Henderson.
Lincoln County Sheriff Lynn Boyte also reported an overall quietweekend with the exception of the “regular holiday weekendreports.”
“It was just a typical holiday where people had a lot of idletime on their hands,” he said.
Family disturbances topped the list of activities for deputiesin the county, said Boyte.
“Some of them were simple assaults and some required medicalattention,” he added.
The discovery of a body in the county (please see related storyon this page) and three reports of theft also kept law enforcementofficers busy.
A three-wheeler and dirt bike were reported stolen from EvansLoop near the Lawrence County line, while a four wheeler wentmissing from Crooked Lane and a tiller was reported stolen onPricedale Drive, said Boyte.
Anyone with information about those crimes can call thesheriff’s department at 833-5231 or Crime Stoppers at 823-0150.
Roadblocks set up in the city kept the reports down to aminimum, according to Henderson. He commented on the number ofcitations written during the holiday weekend.
“We spent a lot of time working on the ‘Click It or Ticket.’ Wegot a lot of people’s attention,” he said, mentioning the statewidecampaign to get motorists to buckle up in order to save lives.
Henderson was thankful for the relatively calm holiday weekendin Brookhaven. He was grateful to the officers for working so hardto achieve that.
Sunny weather also helped officers by keeping the roadways dryfor motorists, said Boyte, noting that only seven minor accidentswere reported during the Memorial Day weekend.
