Changes coming to Hwy. 84

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials Thursdayadvised Lincoln County motorists to be aware of some Highway 84traffic changes beginning next week.

Weather permitting, two-way traffic will be switched tonewly-constructed lanes on about three miles of road betweenBrookhaven and the Lawrence County line. Existing lanes will bereconstructed over the next few months.

MDOT officials urged motorists to drive slowly through the areawhile adjusting to the new traffic patterns.

“Any change in driving conditions can cause some initialconfusion,” said Steve Smith with the Brookhaven MDOT office. “Weurge motorists to exercise extra caution when traveling through thearea so this particular change will go smoothly and safely.”

The Highway 84 work is part of the 1987 Four-Lane HighwayProgram.

A project contract was awarded to WE. Blain and Sons, Inc., ofMount Olive, in February 2001 at a cost of approximately $13million. The estimated completion date is in the summer of2003.
