BHS boys basketball in Games

The Brookhaven High School boys basketball team will compete inthe State Games of Mississippi this weekend. They will compete inPool Three, which includes Scott Central, Newton County, Union andTaylorsville.
Brookhaven, coached by Ronald Hines, plays its first gameThursday at 5 p.m., in Newton County’s gymnasium. On Friday at 1p.m., Brookhaven plays Scott Central at East Central CommunityCollege in Decatur. At 6 p.m., Brookhaven plays Union at NewtonCounty. On Saturday night at 6, Brookhaven plays Taylorsville atNewton High School.
Representing BHS in the State Games are Brandon Caston, MaurioFlintroy, Lamar Hall, Jermaine Culver, J.L. Dickey, Joaqin Smith,Michael Byrd, Steven Keys, Rodney Daniels, Micah Tanner, ScottPickett, Philip Tobias and Dexter Middleton.
“This will give us some good competition,” said Hines. He wasnamed the new head coach at BHS earlier this month.
Winners of each pool advance to Sunday’s Medal Round at MeridianCommunity College.
Coach Hines said Brookhaven will host an invitational boystournament June 27-29 in Sinclair Gymnasium. Joining BHS in thetourney are Bogue Chitto, Lawrence County, Ridgeland, WarrenCentral, Jefferson County, Clinton and Sports Academy out ofJackson. They will compete in two separate pools and play achampionship game Saturday night, June 29, at 7 p.m.
