Damage reports are light in this area from a storm that blewthrough central Mississippi Thursday evening, according toofficials.
Lawrence County was perhaps the hardest hit with reports ofdowned trees and limbs obstructing some traffic.
Monticello and Silver Creek both lost power for about 45 minutesfrom approximately 7 to 7:45 p.m., according to Monticello MayorDavid Nichols. He said there was no other major damagereported.
“We just had a lot of limbs down,” Nichols said.
Monticello firefighter Hugh Summers said Lawrence County CivilDefense was never called out, but some volunteer firefightersremoved limbs from roadways in their area.
Brookhaven received some much needed rain from the storm but nodamage, said Assistant Fire Chief Moses Bell.
“No reports of storm damage have reached us,” he said.
There were reports of trees down on Rogers Lane, according to aLincoln County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, but those were the onlyones reported.
“Considering the wind, I think that was pretty good,” thespokesman said.
Lincoln County Civil Defense Director Clifford Galey said limbson Rogers Lane fell across some power lines and disrupted power toseveral homes until the power company could arrive. The same thingoccurred on Shady Side Lane, he said.
Trees were also down on Harris and Enterprise Streets, Galeysaid. One that fell on Harris Street landed atop two cars, including a 1941 Ford. He could not say how much damage was done tothe vehicles.
“I think they were the tops of trees that split off,” he said.”I don’t think any were whole trees.”
In the big picture, Galey said, the county fared fairlywell.
