Services for Dr. Phyllis Hayes Lanier of Magnolia are 2 p.m.,Wednesday, June 26, at Gillsburg Baptist Church with burial inGillsburg Cemetery. Conducting the services will be the Rev. RobbyBritt, the Rev. Charles Ray, and Dr. Billy B. Thames.
Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at Hartman Funeral Home inMcComb and Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at thechurch.
Dr. Lanier, 60, died June 24, 2002, at Beacham Memorial Hospitalin Magnolia. She was born in New Orleans on Nov. 29, 1941, toWilliam Neil Hayes and Dorothy McGehee Hayes.
She was a retired chemistry instructor and division chairman forthe science department at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She wasan author and had written her own chemistry lab manual. The PhyllisHayes Lanier Science Scholarship was established at Co-Lin in herhonor. She had a tremendous love for her family and her students.She loved her farm and was an avid gardener.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her nephew, JamesEdward Ladner.
Survivors are her husband, Dr. Lauren M. Lanier of Magnolia; herstepsons, L. Mark Lanier and wife Melinda of Texarkana, Ark., andCharles R. Lanier and wife Sandy of McComb; her stepdaughters,Sydney Weber and husband Jerry of Chatam, Ill., and Laney Melvilleand husband T. J. of Dayton, Ohio; her brother, William Neil Hayesand wife Nathalie of Florence, Ala.; her sisters, Janet Matthew andhusband Bob of Gillsburg, and Joyce George and husband John ofCrystal Springs; her nephew, Stephen B. DuBose of Pittsburg, Pa.,her nieces, Laurie Drew and husband David of Crystal Springs andLindsey Hayes of Florence, Ala.; her great-nephew, David Drew Jr.of Crystal Springs; and nine grandchildren and onegreat-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Donnie Lawson, Dr. Doug Shexnayder, PhilBroome, Kevin McKone, Danny Harrell, Dr. Jerry Dykes, RonWilliamson, and Pete Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers will be RayIshee, Dr. Paul Johnson, Darryl Jordan, Rickie Williams, CurtisBishop, Max Lawson, Norman Travis, Allen Kent and Bill Johnson.
