Graveside services for Charles Clyde Bennett of Wesson are 11a.m., Monday, July 1, in the Wesson City Cemetery.

Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bennett, 62, died June 24, 2002, at Cedars Sinai MedicalCenter in Los Angeles. He was born in Independence, La., on March30, 1940, to Clyde Marshal Bennett and Beulah Jean SmithBennett.

He was an award-winning art director and production designer formotion picture companies and worked for HBO for 20 years. Hestudied design at Louisiana State University and apprenticed in thefilm art production under Gene Callahan, whom he worked with in”Hurry Sundown” and “Funny Girl.”

Mr. Bennett went on to a distinguished film and televisioncareer that spanned four decades. He worked on “I’ll Fly Away” forNBC for three years and about 40 features and mini-series fortelevision. He was awarded the Emmy three times for his work onthree mini-series: “Roots” in 1977, “Evergreen” in 1987 and mostrecently “The Last Confederate Widow Tells All.”

His last years were spent with HBO on projects such as “Boycott”and “For Love and Country: The Autura Sandoval Story,” which earnedhim two more nominations. He was also nominated several times forproduction design excellence by The Art Directors Guild. He was anarmy veteran.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his brothers, Bobby Joe Bennett of Oscar, La.,Rodney Bennett of Baton Rouge, La., and Robert Earl Smith of WestOrange, Texas; his sisters, Vickey Grieger of LaGrange, Texas, andShirley Ann Williams of Cheyenne, Wyo.; his nephew, Taylor Bennettof Atlanta; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; and a legion ofdevoted friends.
